While my recipe section will normally feature dishes to tempt the taste buds, I simply couldn’t resist this non-food recipe.
It was sent to me by Andrea Van Nes, a member of my extended family. Andrea is a busy mother of 2 (soon to be 3) who knows about allergies. She also knows about the challenges of skin rashes and eczema.
Any busy mother knows that fast and easy is best! Well, these baby wipes are both simple to make and done in a jiffy. They’ll also keep your baby’s bum healthy and happy. You can’t get much better than that when it comes to baby care products.
These wipes are a money saver too. When you compare the cost of these wipes with the cost of a box of store bought, you should end up with change in your pocket. So, not only will you protect your little one’s bum, you’ll protect your wallet.
When you buy the ingredients for your wipes, be sure to check the labels on any baby wash and baby oil to get the most natural (and preferably organic) brands. This will also help to reduce any chemicals or preservatives in your final product.
Be sure to buy baby oil that does not contain mineral oil. There are a growing number of sources that show mineral oil in personal care products to be hazardous. When in doubt, avoid it. Besides, you don’t need your wipes to last for months, sitting on a store shelf, waiting for someone to buy them. You’re going to use them up quickly in most cases!
Aren’t up for making your own? Consider Seventh Generation wipes and baby care products. I used them for travel wipes with my kids and they worked really well, without ingredients that I couldn’t pronounce.

Home made baby wipes
1/2 of a paper towel roll (cut one in half so the sheets are smaller)
1 1/3 cup of warm water
3 tbsp. baby wash
3 tbsp. baby oil
Put all ingredients into a measuring cup and stir. Leaving the cardboard roll in the paper towels, pour the mixture evenly over the paper towels. Carefully remove the inner cardboard tube. Store in a tupperware container or other container that will seal. Pull the wipes from the inside (where you removed the roll) to use.
