They say that knowledge is power. This is even more true for someone with allergies – in fact, knowledge could be life.
That’s why I’m recommending the Thrive Allergy Expo to readers of my blog.
Thrive is the only allergy-related and gluten-free expo in North America. (I know – I’ve been looking!) At Thrive, you’ll get some insights into living well with allergies. You’ll be able to listen to speakers, see product demonstrations, sample gluten-free and allergen-free cooking and baking from Jules Shepard, as well as have your lungs screened free of charge, compliments of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
If that wasn’t enough, the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center is going to present the latest on celiac sprue detection. For families wrestling with whether celiac is a problem or not, this should be very helpful information. With many chronic conditions it pays to be an educated patient, so that you can ask your doctor the right questions and get the right tests.
At the conference, the MedicAlert Foundation will be launching their latest initiative to provide school age kids with a MedicAlert bracelet for free. This alone could be worth the cost of admission: your cost for a 2 day pass is only $15.
Personally, I love the chance to try new allergy-friendly products. It can be hard to find those products, and not every store carries them. If you find a product you love at the conference, you can inform your local retailer – and help yourself, as well as other allergic folks, at the same time.
The Healthy Living Forum will feature well-known medical professionals and physicians talking about lifestyle allergy solutions. If you are looking for ideas on how to live well with allergies and a minimum of medications, these presentations could have the kind of information you are looking for. After all, this is a conference you can attend where everyone understands allergies. How often can you say that?
I love that the conference is called Thrive. It’s about living well with allergies – not just surviving or getting by, but thriving.
