Your cat could definitely have allergies. Just like their human counterparts, cats and dogs can develop allergies to many of the same things, including pollen, mold and dust mites.

However, your pet will react slightly differently than a human when reacting to these airborne allergens. In most cases, your pet will suffer with scratching, itching and skin reactions. This is because your pet’s mast cells that are responsible for histamines – and therefore responsible for the allergic reaction – are primarily in the skin. (In humans the mast cells are clustered in the upper and lower respiratory tract and the eyes.)

Even if your pet is allergic to foods, the most likely reaction is in the skin.
