If you’ve had IgE testing for wheat allergies and are clear – this does not mean that you could not have celiac disease.

Celiac sprue is notoriously difficult to diagnose. Testing for IgA and IgG are two antibody types that your doctor will look at when trying to confirm celiac disease. Elevated IgA or IgG bodies against TTG or gliadin would be an indicator of celiac.

Many, if not most celiac sufferers, are diagnosed as much by symptoms as they are by tests. In many cases, an intestinal biopsy is required to finally verify the condition.

A good addition to other tests to help confirm or exclude celiac is the genetic test for HLA DQ2 and DQ8. You cannot get celiac if you do not have these genes.
