Who’d have guessed? Turns out that if you are allergic to cats – but can’t live without one – your best bet is a light colored cat!

Apparently, dark colored cats cause more intense allergic reactions. In fact, you are four times more likely to react to a dark colored cat than a light colored cat.

Why the difference? Light colored cats are less allergenic because they produce less of the allergenic protein that triggers your allergic symptoms. That makes avoiding black cats more than just superstition.

Of course, if you really must have that lovely black cat, consider getting a kitten and training it to like baths. A regular weekly bath will help to reduce allergen concentrations on the animal and may be enough to keep symptoms at bay.
