Most parents would prefer that childhood eczema was a thing of the past: it can be an uncomfortable condition that is difficult to treat. Well, it could be possible: new research indicates that it might be as simple as the maternal diet including more foods with beta carotene, to reduce baby’s chance of eczema.

Eczema is characterized by itchy, dry, red patches on the skin. It is usually related to allergies. Infant eczema has become much more common in recent years, perhaps with the move to more processed foods.

It’s not just eczema risk that can be affected by diet. It’s also possible that a pregnant mom can reduce the chance of a child that wheezes by eating a diet high in vitamin E. This important nutrient is found in some green vegetables as well as eggs.

Previous studies did not show a clear correlation between a child’s allergies and the mother’s diet during pregnancy.
