Apparently, there is gene related to eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a syndrome which is also associated with some food allergies.

EoE is a condition which varies with age. Young children with EoE can have difficulty eating, and are very prone to spitting up. In older children and adults, the symptoms change to inflammation in the esophagus that can cause food to become lodged.

Removing the most common allergens from the diet normally helps to reduce symptoms.

EoE runs in families - much as allergies do.
