Futurist Transhuman News Blog is reporting that Allerca Lifestyle Pets will no longer be supplying allergen-free pets.
Allerca has been selling the Allerca GD Hypoallergenic Kitten since 2006, followed later by the Jabari GD Hypoallergenic Dog.
What would make these pets hypoallergenic? It’s not a change in shedding; it’s a change in their genetics.
Apparently, the problem with pets and their dander is a glycoprotein produced by cats and dogs. In cats, the offending protein is Fel d 1 and in dogs it is called Can d 1. What Allerca did is to focus on the genetics of their animals, working towards pets who are free of the offending genes that produce these glycoproteins.
The Allerca website reports that a double blind study showed that people with cat allergies did not react to the Allerca GD cat.
Your hypoallergenic pet doesn’t come cheap: the Allerca GD cat is $6, 950; the Ashera GD cat is $22,000; and, the Jabari GD dog is $8,950.
To find out more about purchasing, check out the Allerca website. The Allerca site doesn’t say anything about ceasing to provide these animals.
