In a highly unusual case, a woman allergic to Brazil nuts developed urticaria and dyspnea after having unprotected sex with her boyfriend.
Her physician put the young woman through skin prick testing. When she had the testing with the boyfriend’s semen after he’d eaten Brazil nuts, she had a reaction. However, when having the same skin prick test with her partner’s semen when he had not eaten Brazil nuts, she had no reaction at all.
This is the first known case of nut allergy reaction to semen.
The case was reported in the Journal of Investigational Allergology and Clinical Immunology.
